Lori Garling has dedicated over 35 years to teaching and directing dance throughout South Central Pennsylvania. A certified member of the National Registry of Dance Educators, she studied dance and psychology in college and has since shaped generations of dancers through her visionary leadership at Dance It Forward. She is certified in the Vaganova method of classical ballet instruction and holds numerous other professional credentials.


As Artistic Director, Garling oversees all programming, choreography, and large-scale productions, including fully staged ballets sometimes with live orchestras at venues such as the Appell Center for the Performing Arts. She is also the founder of the Greater York Youth Ballet and launched York’s beloved Nutcracker Ballet in 1999. Her passion for the art form continues to bring world-class guest artists to the region, enriching the community with professional-level performances and learning opportunities.


Garling’s career is distinguished by her commitment to professionalism, artistry, and accessibility. She is deeply devoted to ensuring that every dancer - regardless of background or financial means - has the opportunity to experience the transformative power of dance.
